My my94 wrx idle revs go to 2400 when the rad fans kick in, also when i put on the rear heated screen, any ideas? otherwise car normal

i no that when the fans come on the engine does tick over more than what it should to compensate the load taken on the engine,but it shouldnt be that high.

On going problem IIRC - if you have eliminated the melted fan harness,possible problem with the map/ecu and if the fans turn freely with the engine off - i would be inclined to check the charge rate and load test the battery.
To eliminate a bad earth and as a temp measure, get a set of jump leads and connect one half of the pair between the earth terminal of the battery and the engine - and the other half of the leads between the engine and the chassis.
See if the problem is still there with the jump leads in place.

You are correct Merlin, ongoing, i do a lot of fishing so have just let the car sit for a while, gonna get back on it now, have just managed to sort a diagnostic session with Bob Rawle in a couple of weeks time, hopefully this will eliminate a couple of things, and maybe even pin point the problem, interesting suggestion you have therem i cant help thinking something is frazzled somewhere though!
