bugeye Lambda sensor problem
Hi everyone engine light lite up last week while driving, MY02 standard,
went to my bro inlaws garage to plug it in, no reading from it. looking at getting a new one, just wondering what way it should effect the car, seems a bit slow to boost untill 4000rpm before the car takes off.
price for a new sensor from stealer €200 !!!
anyone know where i can get one at a better price or coulsd i try a universal 4 wire or get bosch or denso ??
thanks

Which sensor is as there is 2. If it is the front one, ie fitted in the headers, you can't use a universal one. If it is the rear, then yes a 4 wire universal one will do. Based on the price I'm suspecting you've been quoted for the rear one. Subaru4you quoted me £360 for the front one although I've seen it cheaper here

Might be worth dropping him a line

not too sure as i wasn't with him when he plugged it in. when it happened the light for the engine went off before i went to the garage, must ring him and ask him to make sure ...
i remember him saying something like the reading from the sensor as it should go up and down as you rev wasn't changing

I have a PSI 3 in the dash, and unless the fault code starts reoccuring or there's some other syptom from the car I generally reset the ECU and carry on. If it is a genuine fault it will come back straight away. The only time I've had that is when the plug on a coil pack came loose

It's the signal that is pushed out and the way it is interpretted by the ECU from what I understand. My local garage has tried every 4-wire sensor in the bosch catalogue on a legacy with the same lambda set-up, and only when they replaced the lambda with a 'proper' one would the fault code clear

bizarre.
Thanks for the answer though
I'm asking because I've got a dodgy idle/lean on closed throttle problem which I've negated the MAF as a problem - It was in for a service yesterday and Subaru said it was the O2 sensor so I've ordered a Bosch sensor out of hope!

Possibly. Because of the increases airflow the lambda runs cooler and can sometimes not work as it should. You can buy a spacer/bung that lifts the tip out of the airflow, and therefore the cooling effect
Can't remember where mine came from but it is about half an inch long, standard lambda thread at one end for the lambda, and a male thread the same as the lambda thread at the other which goes into the exhaust.
