Default Compression test results

I final done a compression test and found what I really didn’t want. Was praying it was the turbo seals but no such luck.

As your standing in front off the car the cylinder on the right just behind the right hand side head light
(think its number 2) is Reading 5.5 Bar or 75 lb/in2.
2 more are 12 Bar or 170 lb/in2 and the final is 11 Bar or 160 lb/in2.

I take it that it is dead. Don’t really no where to go from here, how much its going to cost to sort or who could do it.

Did find this. What’s anyone think.

SUBARU IMPREZA STI 92 - 98 EJ-20 EJ20 ENGINE on eBay, also, Subaru, Car Parts, Cars, Parts Vehicles (end time 14-Apr-09 13:00:40 BST)

Not sure if it will drop straight into me WRX though and if my Power FC will work with it. If so has anyone done a swap and how much of a mission is it.
Thanks

Think its thanks to the guys who mapped my car. The decided to run 1.3Bar of boost. Not good, im sure all they did was turn the boost up. And its still only ran 282 Bhp.

Its possible that the valves are not sealing on their seats giving a drop in compression or you have det damage to the piston/ring lands on No.2 Piston - either way its an engine strip to investigate.

DO NOT buy an engine from anyone connected to SMR . Do a search on here and see how many disappointed Scoobynetters there are that wish they had never heard of SMR.

Call me Monday l'll talk you through the options. Reading is not too far away from us. " Merlin " may well be right about valve seats, but if there is recent remapping history and the boost has been pushed up, it is possible that you have wrecked a piston.

I pulled my engine out with low compression, thought I'd cracked a reingland, onece the heads was off it turned out to be a burnt out valve. It had been running lean on one bank and I had seen some det.

Could be a piston, could be a valve, could be HG but until its out you won't know for sure - yes you could do a leakdown test but its just more cash - the engines coming out anyway so work it out once the heads are off

As it's the near side head, I would take it off with the engine in the car, should take about 1 hr. All will be revealed then.

If you can get a head off a Subaru engine in the car in an hour you're hired

Chances are, if you've damaged one piston/valve with det, then the other pistons/valves may have some damage that the compression test didn't show, which could lead to a strip down later anyway. Get the engine out, only way!

I’m going to get it taken out and looked at so I don’t get any other problems.
Not going to be for a while though as I don’t have the cash to sort it at the moment.
To be honest I think im going to sort it and sell it. Its caused me nothing but cash and problems since I first had it.
Once I start my new job ill try get a newer one that hasn’t been abused by the previous owner.
As for now it’s the misses Escort ill be crawling around in.

It dont matter how old they are m8t even the new 08s are having rebuilds, and if you do sell and buy a newer 1 it's not going to be troubble free 100%. But if you keep yours fix or let API fix it then the chances are if naffing again is a lot less then buying new.
My big end went about a yr back, my mistake was fitting an 03 bottom end, i really do wish i got it forged, because now i got the mod bug it's only time befor it goes again.
Good luck to ya what ever you decide.

We have had 5 Scooby’s in are house now a classic WRX and STI an 05 WRX with PPP, STI Bug Eye and of course a P1. We have also had two RX7,s still got one, a Tommi Makinen Evo with 400bhp (my personal favourite) Supra RZ, GTO twin turbo and a Fairlady TT all have been tuned.
It seems the Scooby’s are the hardest and most expensive to get big power out off without hurting the internals and the RX7 and Supra the easiest. What’s the reason for this.

Thinking I may get a nice standard STI as my main car as I don’t wanna be with out a Scooby. Then get another RX or Supra for playing with.. Are last supra was running around 500Bhp on a big fat single turbo and standard internals used as an every day and track car for 3 years with no probs.
Both are classics died and the P1 was gonna need a rebuild.
Are the Boxer engine pretty weak in standard spec or something.
Also the straight line speed is not good compared to the other cars we had. They get of the mark quick but cant keep up on the long straights. What’s with that.
