What TMIC fits onto the classic ?
As title really, without too much work involved, currently have the slanted style on my 95 WRX.
what yr/model should i be looking for for easiest fit ?
what does fit with work ?
i take it id have to change the underscoop splitter to suit the TMIC ?
cheers

The easiest option would be an earlt sti slanted intercooler and yes you would need to get the spliter and rubber seal that matches that intercooler to gain the best from it.

The later ones can be used but there is more work involved. If you look in the technical section below this one you should find a couple of write ups on whats involved.

Cheers.
Just had a look on the bay and cars listed as 94/95 sti`s seem to have the same I/C as i have, the black slanted thin one ??
then, the 96 onwards ones have the silver straight looking I/C
cant find any slanted different looking ones to the one i already have

literally just doing the same job to a v1 sti.the slanted wrx and sti intercoolers are exactly the same bar one is painted black and one isn't(heat retention is the only thing i can think).whatever one you fit it requires a new under bonnet scoop and i couldn't find anyone selling anything that would remotely fit so you'll have to fabricate one.all the retro fit oe tmic's i found were for the v1.5 onwards and after buying 4 intercooler's of different versions none are a straightforward fit(just depends on how much welding you can get done at a realistic price before front mount becomes appealing).the v 2/3 seem to be the nearest fit but you'll still need to cut the front bov pipe off and weld a blank plate on it(it fouls on the inlet manifold).i'm using a new age wrx but have had to cut 15mm out of the back plenum, move the 2 lower pipes forward 10mm,weld 2 new brackets on the front and left side(can use the pick up brackets of your intercooler) and weld up the bov(luckily have an ali welding contact so cost £40 the lot)and fabricate a new side bracket.plus the clutch mastercylinder is in the way(more than on a later one)so i've had to use a newage sti one(remote resevoir).if you want to do the mod i can let you have the templates when i'm done(next couple of weeks hopefully) for the scoop and the side bracket, plus iv'e got a couple of later tmic in the garage i can let you have cheap(£10 each plus post).it's a lot of work but if you don't mind a bit of fetteling it's not that bad.

tried the same size i/c as the v6(black one from a v7 wrx i think) and it seemed a bit too close to the bulkhead.
do you not have problems rubbing the pipes and loom on the bulkhead?(if not, i've made sh1tloads of work for myself doh!!!)
the plus is the later one is a bit bigger but weather it's that much better after a re-map, time will tell i supose.if you factor the cost of later oe part's(not sti one's though just buy the next version up's wrx and cover in paint stripper) and making them fit against the price of buying and the making a front mount fit i recon the first option is still cheaper and for reasonable power gains.

Im happy(for now!) with the power i have, which the sti6 tmic is good for, just!
I did move the pipe and loom you mention mach, not too much hastle.
I will probably want more power soon, at which point i'll be investing in a fmic. I fitted one to my last car, not too much hastle, just didn't want to spend £300 for a Hybrid i/c yet!

I'd go for the above i/c in the link, direct fit he says, it's also larger.Chances are the one you've been offered may need a different pipe to fit, also the dv pipe will need some work as it's on the wrong side, unless you have a vta dv.
