Default Classic TMIC Fan setup

TMIC fans are Delta 190 cfm ones, kick out quite alot of air.

but i had to remove the undertray to get them to fit when bonnet was shut

so am a little worried now
there is still a tight fit so the air when the car is moving should still cool the TMIC o.k,i hope

The only problem with the fans is,where i have them in the middle and they are not tight against the fins, the air is flowing thru them as ic an feel air when i put my hand under the TMIC above the gearbox, but alot of the air is like, bluncing off the fins and flowing out each side of the fans, its keeping the top of the TMIC cool, thats for sure, but not sure if thats good enough ?????
2 hrs work and may not be worth the hassle

i have an inlet tempgauge,it does help, keep the temps at bay,but ive only had it on idle, havent driven it anywhere yet in the hot summer etc but the temps still rose to 26 degrees c at idle

Loosing the scoop undertray will drop the ram air cooling whilst moving, a lot of air will be going over the ic, rather than through it.
This coupled with the loss of surface area due to those fans being in the way, won't help at all.
Get a better intercooler!!!

yeah,i keep reading that but is it an actual fact, or more of an F1 Type of test etc,i can see what people say to reason this, but air is still flowing, those fans kick out a hell of alot of air,190 cfm so thats 380 CFM around the top/thru the TMIC etc

i`ll keep an eye on the temps, see if they go above 30 c when driving as they didnt before while chillin

cheers

i suppose i could try and find out what TMIC is wider than my current classic WRX one, then the undertray would of had to of been made wider too,as i say,my current undertray is only 4" wide, these fans are 5" in width,so if i could find an undertray with a 5" or more wide opening i could fit that ?

but then, the later TMIC were straight fitting, whereas mine is the old slanted style,so a new straight undertray wont help either as it will foul the slanted one ??

theres always summut to mess it up !!!

Grrrr

cheers

I cant see them working, Good theory but will affect air flow and may even disturb the air hitting the IC, I'd say couple with an IC water spray may help when at santa pod doing 1/4 mile runs to stop heat soak while waiting in the que, but once moving I dont think you could move as much air with the fans as normal air flow would be,

When you measure air temp do you take a reading when on full boost?

As 30 degrees is fine, you dont want it too cold.

Good luck and look forward to seeing the results

Just doing some extremely rough calcs , if scoop is 12" x 3" = 36sq inches or 0.25 of a square ft .
50 mph = 73 ft / sec , so 73 x 0.25 = 18cft/sec multiply by 60 secs = 1095 cft/m , almost 3 times the amount you will get from your fans , up to about 15mph they might help keep the air travelling over the IC but above that they will probably impede the air flow. Pretty sure someone cleverer than me will point it out if i have done something wrong.

Temps dont seem to be affected as yet, wonder if movin the fans to each end rather than in the middle would help,so the intercooler would be clear where the fans are currently

If you move them even further apart, say on yourfront wings thay may be of more help there,
mikey is right, you will never move more air than when traveling, For what purpose would you need these fans? And if temp is not effected then that would almost answer your own question,
Dont mean to put a downer on it but would hate to see you waste time and money.
