new to subarus, arrrr! please help advice needed
hi everyone,im new to the forum so go easy!
im also new to the subarus as im been a ford nut for years but just got myself a sti type r 3dr,its a beautiful looking car but one problem,i bought it as a none runner,i know what your thinking, why?? it was cheap as it should be being a non runner but after checking it out the cambelt hasnt gone, its got a spark and fuel, turns over fine and trys to start but just never fires up,so im thinking crankposition sensor?are these common for going?would this cause it not to fire up?
it hasnt got an alarm so its nothing to do with that, ive noticed the air intake pipe going into the turbo where it is rubber has split pretty much all around, would this also cause it to turn over but never fire up?ive ordered a new silcone item which should be here next week but i just want to know peoples opinions or anything it could be as ive never seen so many sensors on an engine in my life! im a fully qualified ford mechanic so checking, replacing anything isnt a problem,
any kind of advice, things to check etc i would be really gratefull as i just want to get it on the road!
finally sorry for boring you,the guy who i bought it off said he went over a speed bump and it cut out, prior to that it was running fine???so im hoping its something easy
thanks
dan

I would first check the crank sensor for sure. As this is more than likely your culprit.
But do not forget although you have spark and fuel there may be no compression. Check the compression while your at it as this could be the main reason why its been sold cheap.
Good Luck

As STI Baly said - the crank would be the most likely culprit, but as I said my water temp sensor went and it REALLY struggled to get going. If yours is completely goosed it might not want to go at all.

Ebay mate. Water temp sensor about 25 and crank will be a bit more but only go for a new one.... or try the stealers but they will pull your pants down. Erm, scoobyclinic maybe?? Not sure if they do them or not

if the crank sensor has "gone", then you shouldn't get a spark
to test is simple, disconnect the crank sensor, do you have a spark, if the answer is no, reconnect it -- now do you have a spark, if the answer is yes
then its a good guess that the crank sensor is working
try the same with fuel -- i think without a crank sensor it does not fuel too

It may well be just the broken pipe to the turbo, I had the small pipe from the boost solenoid to the resonator come off over a pot-hole and wouldnt idle or even run properly.
took ages to find out what was wrong. lot of head scratching.
get your new accordian pipe fitted if you have already ordered it and try again if its still not running then move onto the sensors IMO.
