Your best bet is to pick one up second hand, new they come in at about $400US but admittedly they are rare as hens teeth. Grab the one on Ebay that's going now for 200ish.
I must admit FCTune looked good, but support for that got pulled ages ago and it wasn't ever developed for all the Power FC's. It was a one man and his wenkel... if you get what i mean.
FCEdit with Datalogit is the way forward unless you know a friendly Power Excel shop..

I wouldn't bother imho. The base map should be safe on the Pfc once you plug it in but not for any serious driving. Personally i'd either wait until you have the money to get the software, or, book it in for a tune and get the software to play with later. I think you have a different MAF going on so the MAF will need to be scaled properly first.
The home tuning starter kit as i like to call it is not cheap and the parts start to add up.
Ecu - 500-1000£
Wideband and optional EGT - 200-300£
FCEdit - 200-300£
Optional DET cans 100-200£ unless you make yourself
Laptop £££
The list goes on but..
Alternatively as said before you could get it set up for you, if your south east surrey based let me know and i'll point you in the right direction
