If you have a classic then I believe its at 45k then 90k etc. Also worth doing every 4 years irrespective of mileage as oil, grime and age all take there toll on the belt. Its not a massive job but if you have any doubts at all get it done by someone else. I paid £65 for a belt (Gates) and paid £110 to have it fitted (inc a new crank seal). Have the tensioners checked and change if needed.

If it snaps then its going to knacker the engine for sure. If you have just bought it and there is now definite proof its been done I would do it asap. Followed by a general service oil/filter etc. I know its expensive but nowhere near as expensive as a new engine.

Ok, personally I would change it. If you really don't want to do it then at least take the cover off and inspect the belt. Its no guarantee that it will not snap but any obvious problems may be visible.
