I had that a year or so back
Due to the reduction gearbox in the cable (which on mine was postioned close to the clutch master clylinder and turbo area)

Repositioning it slightly reduced the click

BUT

A few months later the reduction gearbox siezed occasionally , and snapped the speedo cable (and/or the repair I had done to it)...

Eventually stripped and cleaned the reduction gearbox to stop it happening again

Mark: The cable from speedo passes through the bulk head & sits into a circular tube where drive is transferred. Only held in by by a free weight. Working on speedo head or in cable run area can dislodge or miss align as can enthusiastic take off over hump back bridge.
