Default Checking MAF Sensor? - MY00 UK Turbo 2000

Hi guys,

Thought I would check the MAF on my car whilst giving it a little look over but wasn't quite clear on what results I should of expected.

Whilst the engine was running I unplugged the sensor expecting the car to stall.... Is this what should of happened?

What actually happened when the sensor was unplugged was the revs of the engine seemed to dip but then recovered after less than a second. Does this mean that the ECU is controlling the mixture therefore meaning I need a new MAF sensor?

Cheers,

Does it matter if the car is warm?

I did this on Friday when I first started my car and it didn't stall. It became irratic but didn't stall.

Bought a new MAF so fingers crossed it will cure my problem.

Should not make a difference if it is warm or cold, the car should stall if you unplug the maf.

On a MY99/00 car I would replacement the maf yearly as a matter of precaution or another option would be to use the maf from a newage car.

This can fitted and mapped to run on the MY99/00 cars and is much more robust and is another option if going mafless is too expensive.

I got rid of my MAF. Had two failures, one flat out in 3rd and it nearly put me and a friend through the screen !.

A cotton filter supports the MAf much better than foam based filters !
