iv got a 1993 wrx its running 296bhp and 296lbft torque running tdo5 turbo at 1.1 bar .japspeed manifold ,japspeed 3inch full system ,255 fuel pump ect .

im after ideas as to what i can do so its not as laggy ,i was thinking of heat wrapping the manifolds ,and maybe changing the turbo to a vf range one but need advice on what fits turbo wise ect

im not really after more power just faster spool up
thanks

the headers on your car will make it seem more laggy due to it making the turbo spool up later, what ecu are you running and have you had it rolling roaded

so the japspeed headers will make it spool latter ,yep it was on the rollers at prosport in stockport 296bhp and 296lbft torque. im on standard ecu with polar performance chip running 1.1bar on high boost .i have adjustable fuel presure with with gauge under bonnet and boost gauge with adjustable boost controller

I'd whip off your Japspeed headers and put on a set of OEM ported ones from Harvey (and the ported up-pipe too). Possibly get them ceramic-coated aswell. Could also ceramic coat the turbo and downpipe (or a heatwrap jacket on the turbo and heatwrap bandages on headers, up-pipe and downpipe instead).

This will surely make the turbo spool about 500rpm earlier I would have thought.

Also, how about running without a DV (plug the recirc inlet and IC outlet with bungs). This will keep the charged air 'loaded and primed' in the inlet tract, ready to 'immediately' be forced back into the IM as soon as the TB is opened again.

I reckon the combo of these two mods will give you exactly what you crave...

All I know is the OEM ones, ported, are supposed to work from 'low' bhp levels i.e with relatively low airflow through the engine.

I think with many aftermarket headers, then you benefit with higher bhp figures i.e. when the engine's flowing more air is when they come into their own.

Re. the DV: just remove it and then plug both the DV recirc port on the turbo intake hose and also the DV outlet port on the IC inlet pipe. Also, ensure that its now redundant vac feed from the IM is not venting to air.

as what's been said above.get the tubular headers off and go back to the stock headers/up pipe.better still a set of ported ones.
i personally wouldn't use tubulars unless the turbo is at least a td05 20g/md321h sized turbo.it's overkill on your set-up and will most definately be having an adverse affect on spool up

Yeah, the OEM ones - ported or not - will **** 300.

AFAIK, they're good for upto about 350 (maybe more? Up to 400?) before they possibly become restrictive.
