Default Big end?

Evening all,

Was out driving at the weekend when the car developed a slight noise that was only aubible over 3500rpm in 1st, 2nd and 3rd gear. Nothing in 4th and 5th.

Took it home and then back to garage on Monday morning and get a call this afternoon that the big ends may be gone and engine needs stripping to check.

Does this sound right to anyone??? Car is a 2004 wrx waggon with 62000 miles. I brought it with 59000 at which time the garage also changed the cam belt.

Any ideas???

mine went about 60k, seems to be quit commen.
it was more noticable when changing gear, knocking noise from the bottom of the engine.
on stipping it had gone on no' 3 and damaged the crank.

I have been told to take it easy for the fisrt 1000 miles though and then take it back to them so they can check it over to see that all is still well.

Only other thing I have done is join the AA!!! Did have the recovery thing with the car insurance but that really was pants.
