Question Servicing advice on oils to use

Going to be giving the scooby, classic MY00 impreza, some new lube but just wondering if anyone can advise me on what oils to use, looked in the owners manual and says what they recommend but just wondered what engine oil, diff oil and gearbox oils other people are using. cheers, craig

If you have any prior reciepts it should tell you what they have put in before, then otherwise your looking at mileage, fully synths are no good on high mileage cars that have been run on semi synths all their life, the wear is already there, so 10w40 shell helix, as stated in the book
And what is the mileage?

You gotta tell us the year&model mate....

People seem to be swearing by Motul and the boys across the Atlantic seem to like the Redline stuff.

Try Opie Oils - Oil Recommendations Specialists | Find the right Engine Oil & Performance Products

I need to get gear and rear diff oil. I have narrowed it down to Shell Spirax ASX 75W-90 and the Castrol Sytrax 75W-90...the latter being from Opie oils.

The one niggle is that if you have an STi with LSD, you cannot just use the same oil as your gearbox in your rear diff. You need a 'mechanical' rear diff oil...whatever that means. Still trying to figure out what it means and whether my STi has LSD.
