please can anyone help.i have a knock on my sti8 on startup.the car has only done 34k.the noise is pretty heavy,sounds like crank possible.but the noise is literally there only for about 1-2 seconds when it starts then instantly goes.rev it to 2-2.5 k and quiet as a mouse. literally it is just on startup.have found the smallest bits of glitter on the dipstick tho. any ideas, or is it the inevitable!.

 

If the noise is there until the oil pressure warning light goes out, then it sounds like a big end bearing has started to pick up unfortunately.
Piston slap tends to last a bit longer until the engine temp comes up.
The timing belt tensioner can also give a mechanical type knock when worn.

sounds like the worst to be honest mate.only reason i wasnt 100% sure,was that soo many people have said i should hear noise around 2-2.5k, n its quiet as a mouse,just on startup.

 

any ideas welcome,anything else that could make this noise?

 

I GOT A 2004 STI8 MY DID 31K THEN THAT KNOCK STARTED IT SOUNDED LIKE A LOUD RATTLE WEN YOU REV IT. IT WAS THE BIG END SHELLS I JUST HAD IT REBUILT WITH STRONGER CRANK ON IT ETC COST ME AROUND 3000 SO BAD LUCK MATE IF IT IS I WAS GUTTED WEN MY WENT MATE

 

thanks for your advise scoobydoo,im gona change my oil thursday,n c if theres any glitter in the oil,im hoping not, but to b honest,im expecting the worst.
