Default to chip or not to chip.................

hi all,

i have a uk2000 ( 1997) with a 3.5 full de-cat, air filter BOV and want to have the car suited for it, cant go down the power fc route just yet, but iv heard of polorperformance chips.....but cant seen to find any for a 97?!

anyways, can anybody recommend a chip that would give me a little more power, and run a little more hapopy with the mods iv done?

also, iv seen loads on fleebay -....but not sure if they really are ok or just dog ***

thanks in advance

Ebay + chips = trouble imo.

There is no chip avaliable for a 97 year car BUT there is Hybrid power boost controller avaliable for your car http://www.hybrid-power.com/index.php (think Harvey on here sells them)

thanks for the reply, so my only option is either new ecu, or just a boost controller ?

if i was to get a boost controller tho, the car still wouldnt be set up properly for the other mods iv done would it?

is there no other option? without spending 500+ for a new ecu +mapping?

well the mods you've done are hardly extensive tbh (not like changing injectors, turbo etc) so i would have thought the boost controller would be fine.

Go for 1.1 bar via the boost controller i've mentioned as it does have an inbuilt FCD.

My mate has one on his 98 UK car (admittedly he did rebuild his engine with forged bits, uprated turbo, fmic) running 1.3 bar and it works fine (rolling roaded to make sure though).

there is also the Dawes Device 3 Bar Racing---Home Page plenty of people have used them and seem happy but they don't come with a FCD.

imo any boost increase should be checked on a rolling road to check the fuelling is fine etc.

ok cool, thanks mate.

so apart from that, can you think of any other options for my ecu, or a cheaper option for a new ecu/map?

Wrong. ESL have been working on this for a while but still nothing availiable yet. Aftermarket ECU required. Or the boost valve and fcd - they work very well!!
