Default to or not to clean a maf

ive read various posts saying they've cleaned there maf using cottom buds & brake cleaner, ive removed mine & its looks abit black so gonna give it a try is it just the mesh part i clean or is it the element aswell?? the problem im having is slight hesitation on high boost, ive bin narrowing it down bit by bit but its costing alot of money so far ive got brand new coil packs,spark plugs ive got a my95 wrx running a polar perfomance chip,tsl group n back box & decat centre section,bailey dump valve,apexi power intake any help ideas appreciated

Hi - I'm not ging to be much help as I seem to have the same problem as you - trying to narrow it down vis Coil packs etc, got the car booked in on Wed for diagnostics, hoping it's not going to be too expensive !!!! Please advise how your MAF clean went/goes and good luck. it's flippin annoying !!! there is a similar post just up on gen Tech............

its worthwhile changing the coil packs anyway mate not cheap i did mine one by one, they've bin in along time they crack & fall to bits, mine does run noticeably smoother with less hesitation after replacing them but theres still that slight hesitation, it will drive you mad, ive spent a while searching the net reading about cleaning the maf & decided to give it a miss now with the carb cleaner most people reakon its to harsh & some sort of electrical cleaner would be better, so going to try & source some of that. im thinking my next move will be a walbro fuel pump as it seams to hesitate on high boost so maybe the old tired one is leaning out abit under pressure

What car is it if it's 2000 ish leave it alone just get a new one don't touch it. They are notorious

I think they fail generally if an aftermarket Induction Kit is fitted .... using an oil soaked filter.

mines a 1994 wrx green maf think there alot stronger than the newer classic maf's

Yes, those ones can take a clean, as long as you're not brutal, give it a go

What about MY97 orange label? Just taken mine out and looks a bit grubby. Been reading up on NASIOC and they swear by cleaning mafs.

Is car running ok now ?? mines in the garage at the mo with similar running issues to you, havn't heard from them yet !!!

well i picked up some contact cleaner from maplins was only a few quid gave it a good spray but after a test drive i cant notice no difference so back to the drawing board again
