i think the main one is dont go booting it let things bed in i think there was mention of keeping it under 3000rpm for a few hundred miles could be wrong no doubt someone will have experience of this on here.

After my rebuild with API, ('98 classic sti) I had my engine limited to 4k rpm with the Apexi FC commander unit ~ which I then ran in for around 1000 miles - then had an oil change/service....very important you don't boot it and look after it during the period no matter how tempting it is!

Cheers

Well I ran in my 16G-powered forged CDB with STi4 heads like this:
1. Start car, drive around the block immediately for 20 minutes of normal backroad driving accelerate/overrun constantly, never idling or going over 3000rpm or 0.8 bar boost. Change oil (Morrisons 10w40 mineral) and filter (genuine).
2. 100 miles of the same sort of driving, avoiding idling and cruising as much as possible but otherwise normal brisk acceleration and overrun when needed. Change oil and filter.
3. 100-500 miles done in the same normal (i.e. not 'gentle' at all) driving style, boost up to 1.0 bar, revs up to 4000. Change oil and filter.
4. 500-1000 miles as step 3 but boost up to 1.2 bar, revs up to 5000 rpm. Change oil for and filter as before.
5. 1000 miles! Now fully run in, replace oil with Silkolene Pro S 10W50, new genuine filter, full boost set up to 1.45 bar, revs to 6500rpm pending remap.
6. 1300 miles - Mapped on Zen's rollers at 1.5 bar = 346 bhp with torque and power curves smooth as a baby's bottom.

Hope this helps. As you can see I don't subscribe to the idea of running in a car gently and it seems to have worked. This was the advice given to me by my local motorsport garage who regularly rebuild race and rally cars of all types.

I will only add the a well respected tuner told me to run-in a Subaru engine on ordinary mineral oil for the first 3000 miles. Mr. Jeffery to be precise.

Yes, ZEN have put in a basic mineral running-in oil in my new rebuilt engine.

I'm just about done running in the first 500m and have given myself a self-imposed running-in limit of 3.5k rpm like GGR have stated in those instructions. But I'll occaisionally use as much boost as those revs allow i.e. accelerate fast rather than slow upto 3.5k. I've occasioinally forayed upto 4.5k too.

For the latter 500m, I'Il progressively increase the revs evenly over that period from 3.5k to about 5.5k... Then at 1000m, the oil/filter change to proper fully synth Ester and a re-map set-up at ZEN.

Then I'll gradually increse the revs from 5.5k to 6.5k... Then, later on, to my 7k+ redline.
