Do i need this in pipe

Default Do i need this in pipe

Hi, i was hoping someone could help, the other day i found a damaged pipe which goes from the fuel pressure regulator to the inlet manifold. i replaced the pipe but the one i took off had a small piece of metal in it which i have not put in the new pipe my question is do i need this bit of metal? if so what is it for?
any help would be great

sounds like a restricter ball or is it a metal filter type thing?

i feel really stupid, i just cut open the old pipe but there was nothing init, that part of the pipe was unusally harder than the rest and the inside was kind of shiny so i thought there was something metal there.
thanks for a quick reply and sorry for wasting your time

i think im gonna go crawl under a box or something
