I have 99 impreza turbo totally standard and I have noticed when increasing speed with gentle thottle pressure the car seems to accelerate with a slight pulsing sensation. Most noticable in third gear at around 2500 -3000 rpm. Doesn't do it when accelerating hard.

Has anyone else noticed this, and is it normal? Is it possibly to do with turbo pressure building up?

Hi i think what ur decribing is also called the dreaded hesitation by some people, i notice it on mine MY00 turbo when cold on light throttle a slight pulsing (hesutation) I think the common school of thought is it may be the ecu AE8002 ithink and Subarus medling, the only solution is to change the ECu for an earlier model MY98 which according to some also give a perfromance increase...I myslef can live with it for now

Interesting, i have the exact same problem on MY 96 UK turbo. Wondered what was causing it myself.

The ECU then?

hmm Cel i ve only heard of the ecu thingy with MY99/00, there also the boost solenoid contamination when over filling with oil may produce these effects... but im not sure!! also do u have a dump to atmosphere BOV? this can cause running probs too...

Ah Ha, I have got a vent to atmos dump valve, dunno what sort though also decat full scorpion exhaust. That’s it for engine mods as far as I know.

It doesn’t bother me, as long as its not an early indication of something on its way out.
