Ive been offered a PPP ECU for my 04WRX. I am thinking of fitting it and buying all the other bits second hand.
I just need to know what bits I need.
I have found a prodrive back box and the y pipe but I heard from someone that they also remove one of the cats if so which one?

If you change the ECU,you will also need to recode your keys.

Thanks, I had looked at prodrives site but did not find a mention of removing a cat. Have I been misinformed?
Recoding the keys throws up another question, do they change the key or change the ecu software to accept the key? I ask this because if I fit the ecu and get the recode done will I be able to refit my original ecu at a later date without having the keys done again?

Cat is changed in the STI to a sportcat.WRX remains the same. The key is programmed to the ECU, so if you remove the ECU, you will have to re reprogramme the keys...

 

I don't think you will need the keys done again if you put your old ecu on again. It doesn't lose the key programming memory when you take it off.

 

Won't the keys have been reprogrammed to the other ECU? When I had to have a replacement PPP ECU I had to have keys reprogrammed

 

Yeah, but I can't see why they would only be programmed to one ECu at a time. I know Subaru can do a fresh programm to change the coding of the keys on the ecu. But I'm sure they can "clone" the current keys as they are, so you can still use the old ecu.

 

The 2nd downpipe cat is removed. Its a fairly easy swap from under the car. You can't buy the proper Prodrive one, but you might find a s/h alternative off ebay for around £40. Or you can buy a new one from Scoobyworld/H&S etc for just over a ton. Make sure its got a thread in it for fitting the sensor from the original cat or you'll get a light on.
