Default classic leaking header tank cap

As above, only recently past few days, started doing it, will get up to heat, then suddenly deposit entire contents of coolanty systen into the engine bay particurally over the exhaust manifold and smoke / steam everywhere. Cant get it to be a airtight fit anymore.

is there anything i can do to make it fit? ive ditched the car and now getting a bus till its fixed as dont want to run with no water.

anyone had similar? any suggestions?

thanks

david

I guess the cap isn't a tight fit hence why it dumps the water everywhere, just buy a new standard cap.

Try a new cap. If that doesnt work start saving for new head gaskets.

3 ways.
White smoke out the exhaust (may not be very noticable)
Water mixing with oil (mayonnaise on the dipstick)
Loss of compression in the cylinders

All depends where the H/G has broken.
