Default Has anyone ot a clue?

strange one today driving along at 30mph in fith on a straight and flat road just touched the throttle and it coughed backed off and rev counter dropped to 0rpm pulled over car cranked oer fine not even an attempt to fire got towed back to work finished the jag i was workin on an hour later did a fault code read and nothing no codes at all turned key and it fired first time so i just thought i would see if any one has any ideas before i start going through it was thinking maybe a crank sensor or cam sensor as it seemed to be heat related (it had done 4 miles) the car didnt over heat and its full of fuel any ideas welcome

Yeah, I'd say crank sensor, seeing as revs dropped to 0 and it didn't fire - could be a dodgey connecton. Try wiggling it about (although you won't really know, because it started again ).

thats why i was thinking that way will have so start it up at work and leave it idling see if it cuts again i have come across many other cars that have had same thing happen (bmw, bentley and vauxhalls) when the sensor gets too a temperature and drops the signal until it cools a few degrees then they fire up again just need find time have a look just as well i have the works van to use

Just replaced a crank position sensor, was £150 from the agents.

Yes yes, you've jogged my memory. Someone on here also explained that some time ago - so would make total sense. If it does it agian only when hot, then immediately try to start the car - 'hopefully' it won't. Then, if you leave it, say, 10-15mins and it does, then defo condemn the pesky crank sensor...

A lack of an ECU code/s don't neccessarily mean that it's NOT knackered, though... Especially if it gets back into spec after it cools down i.e. after an hour later, that the OP did.
