Default '95 WRX lost power.

Few months ago i bought my STI V2 wagon from a guy via autotrader. He said it was running 305bhp with the ecu done, Walbro fuel pump and a full 3 inch catback system. Been the STi it came standard with 260bhp so i took his word for it.

The exhaust had the bung in so at our first fuel stop it was taken out to see how loud it was. The car was almost undriveable, if i put my foot down flat the car would jerk and splutter all the way to the red line. If i fed the petrol to the motor by slowly pressing the accelarator the car would pull like a rocket.

With the bung in, there was no problem at all and booting my foot down gave huge, smooth power and gave my girlfriend a sore neck!! Wanting to find why it was doing this i checked a few forums, a nice man on another website pointed me in the right direction. The pipe from my resonator box to the boost solenoid had snapped off. Fixing this and doing a ECU read i got a fault code of a Crank position sensor. I replaced that and cleared all fault codes and after running the car found no fault codes stored.

With or without the bung the car is super smooth under boost but now i am way under powered. I have lost loads of power. I have even lost rpm! Before the car would rev past 8000rpm, now it hits a rev limiter at 7000rpm.

Any ideas of what can be wrong?

I was told by Slowboy racing that an ECU reset would not do that! It is just what it feels like though.

I guess you're running the standard ecu?
How did the guy 'get it done'?

I have no idea mate, i tried to call the guy i got the car from but with no luck. It really has got me by the short and curlies. The power drop feels huge. I will have the car worked on by a pro to sort it out but would like see if there is something i have done first.

if you have reset the ecu then it may take a few hard runs for it to advance the timing again (to where it might of been before). If you feed it 99 ron and take it for a good long blast this should begin to advance the ignition and the power might come back.
A chipped v2 ecu cant loose its memory (on the chip) even with battery off.

Doubt very much it ever made over 300 in the first place?
