Boost Solenoid not clicking- should it???
Hi all,
I'm hoping someone can help me with this one! My MY02 WRX hasn't been running as well as it used to - slight flat spot pre the boost really kicking in. Having spent some time searching on here I thought that I would clean the boost solenoid through so:
-connected the two green connectors under the dash
-tunred the key but didn't start the engine
-fans started and I could hear clicks from various parts of the engine but the boost solenoid remained silent!!
Based on the posts I had read I expected it to click open and shut. I sprayed some carb cleaner in anyway but it definitely wasn't running through the solenoid just in and out the same hole.
Can someone let me know if it should click and also is there is anyway to check it before I go and get a new one? Not even sure how much they cost?
Cheers
Alex

Thanks for confirming that I should be able to hear it! Probably a very stupid question but what do you mean by repair manual? Is it something I can download or do I need to buy a manual from somewhere?

Had the Boost solenoid off again and put a multimeter across the connector but there doesn't seem to be any current coming through it when in test/diagnostic mode (green connectors joined under dash). Surely I should get some current registering??
Could anyone let me know if:
-there is a fuse/relay for the solenoid that I can check?
-if there is any way to test the solenoid works e.g. force the piston inside back or pass a current across it?
Final question, and be gentle I am a newbie, will running the car with the solenoid not working cause any damage or just been it won't boost as well as it should?
Many thanks for all the help. If all else fails I'll take it to the local dealer but would sooner avoid the expense if I can sort it myself
