Default STUCK!! Cam pulley removal tool needed???

Hey guys.

Okay, I've a mechanic buddy doing cam seals and belt on the wifes JDM 1998 Legacy GT Twin turbo auto Estate, as there was smoke from bonnet which we thought was rocker cover but have done them and still minor smoke after 500 miles.

He's got covers off along with belt and crank pulley, but he's rung me struggling to get the cam pulleys off and states he needs some sort of special tool?? anybody where I can get it at a good price as it is in fact the cam seals leaking.

see photo of required tool (once I upload to photobucket)

Subaru have given a photo of what they can get but £200.!!!!!! and a long wait

Apprently there is three of these weird fasteners, one of the cam pulleys he can get off as its minus this lock type fastener.

Anybody know what this tool is called and where it could be found, or is there a nack of undoing using regular tools

Tried this on the LegacyUK forum but no reply

Hopefully he has not thrown away the old timing belt.

Wrap it around the offending pulley and lock it with mole grips.

Undo the centre bolt with a sharp whack.

Refit is the reversal of removal...as they say.

Worked for me, just don't try to fit the belt to the engine after

on the cam shaft ,near the pulley there are "2 flats" i put an adjustable spanner on them , held tight and undone the pulley. Im not sure if this is a good thing to do or not but its what i did and all's fine

As above - 29mm open ended spanner on the flats on the cam.
