Default dump valve noise

I guess this will be controversial: I want my BOV to sound like everyone else's !!

currently it gives a very quick "cacacacacacacacacaca" sound instead of a nice smooth "pssshhhhhhhhhh"

its a Blitz (not sure of model)
it has a trumpet
Ive run it with and without the trumpet ansd it sounds the same

theres a gauze between the bod and the trumpet which Ive cleaned, but not run without ...yet

is it OK to run without the gauze?
is it likely to be the gauze?
could it be the trumpet?
or is it the adjuster screw which need fettling? (theres an external locknutted adjuster on the body end)

any thoughts?
(the car runs fine with the BOV...it just makes a bit of a racket, is all)
