I can't believe I'm asking this after 11 years of Impreza ownership but what to these terms mean and what years/markets do they apply to.

G = Impreza
C = saloon / F = wagon
8 = 2.0 turbo

EJ20 = 2.0 turbo engine
EJ25 = 2.5 turbo

etc...
