Default MAF sensor check

Hi been doing some checks on my 95 wrx, i read on here if you unplug the MAF sensor while the engine is running the car should cut out, is this right? cause mine doesnt, does this mean the sensor is shot? the car seems to run ok tho

It's not a fool proof method but yes it should stall.
Checking the voltage is a better way of checking

When I've disconnected mine (my00) with a good MAF the engine carried on running but very lumpy and close to stalling. But with a knackered MAF it
ran very smooth when disconnected, better than with the MAF plugged in.

Ive just been advised by Suberu that unplugging the MAF tells the ECU to drop into default mode - ie ignoring the MAF and other sensors. So there could be a problem with another sensor masked by unplugging the MAF.

thanks for the replies lads,
i know i've got a slight prob with the crank sensor cause sometimes i'm having starting probs but a quick wiggle of the wires sorts it for a few weeks ha could this be the 'masked' fault, how can i check the MAF? the engine runs exactly the same as when its plugged in

Use a multimeter should be about 1v on idle and over 4v on WOT
