Default What exhaust bits do I need for a 2001 WRX?

I'm confused....I have ordered a Sports cat, Decat pipe, a centre section and then the back box. But what is an up pipe and do I need it for my 2001 WRX bugeye?

I hope someone can help on my last car a FOCUS RS all I had was a de-cat and then pipe to back box

better to get one mate the wrx has a cat in standard up pipe, very restrictive and i understand it can cause problemns if not fitted.

The up pipe is from the exhaust manifold to the turbo and on newage wrx's has a cat in it. With everything else you are changing it would be best to replace it with a catless up pipe. Either a standard sti pipe has this has no cat, or buy an aftermarket stainless up pipe but have it heat wrapped. This is what I have just done. Don't take the job lightly though and allow plenty of time to complete it as it is quite involved.

I have never tried it without, but was told helps spool but my concern was the heat escape close to the driveshaft gaitor. How much noisier was you car after fitting the stainless up pipe.

Thanks for that I just needed some clarification....I have gone for what I consider to be a quiet system but will all the de-cats and sports cat make my car too loud I really dont want something thats stupid loud??

I have gone for a race box back box and afterburner pipe work, ninja 100 cell sports cat all from scoobyworld and the centre section with a resonator still in

I have slip jointed wrapped up pipe prodrive sports cat down pipe with centre decat, H&S de-resonated centre and a prodrive backbox. It is not excessively loud, but presume a resonated centre section would make it a little quieter. And to answer above question I don't think the heat wrap helps with the noise, it just keeps the exhaust gases hot and hence they spool the turbo faster.
