Default Faulty MAF sensor?

Hi all,
Got problems with my99 UK wagon, between 2-3500rpm car judders/missfires and is starting to feel sluggish, the car idles just fine though.
I have taken the induction kit off and re-fitted the standard air box because, from reading old forums, these can cause a MAF sensor to go t*ts up due to sucking in excess oil/moisture etc.
Does this sound like the MAF sensor? anyone had similar problem? I want to be sure before I replace it (I believe the part no is 22794AA0010 if anyone can varify this )

Any advice appreciated

Hi mate, know I have'nt mate. I would appreciate any help, I was going to get a new sensor ordered tom from a local company, fit it and see if it makes a difference. I did read something on how to check the fault codes on the ecu.

ok,under the dash on the drivers side there are some plugs that will b disconnected, they r quite small and sometimes a bit tricky to find, there are 2 green and two black.with ignition off connect the two black connectors together, they just push 2 gether.switch ignition on without starting engine and watch the check engine light on dash,it will flash,if it flashes once a second continuous, then all is ok as regards sensors.if it indicates a fault it shows u by flashing long pulses and short pulses, the long pulses are tens and short are singles,so if it flashes 2 long pulses then 3 fast ones, that would read fault 23. if it keeps repeating that then it means there is only 1 fault(fault 23). see what it does, then turn ignition off anddisconnect the black plugs. this take 2 minutes to do.check it and let me know what it comes back with, then ill help u with the next stage!

fault 23 is maf sensor. u thoughts were correct. once u have fitted the new maf,u will need to reset ecu.this is done via the black and green connectors again.i can explain how to do that if u like, was that the only fault yeah?

ok,again, with ignition off connect the black connectors and also connect the green connectors, turn on the ignition without starting engine, wait for check engine light to come on,press accelerator pedal to the floor then return it to the half throttle position and hold it there for 2 seconds, then release foot from pedal completely, start the engine, leave till it gets warm or until the check engine light comes on,it should flash 1 per second continuously showing all clear(no faults).once that has happened switch engine and ignition off and disconnect the green and black connectors.ecu is now reset. during this process u may find that the fans start going mad,but dont worry this is normal. ensure that u do this after installing new maf sensor as the ecu will have registered fault 23 and it will still be there until u have reset ecu. job done mate. good luck, hope u can make sense of all that.
