Question is a 95-96 ra block a direct swap for my 97-98 uk block

hi there

is a 95-96 ra block a direct swap for my 97-98 uk block

as i have heard about having to put spacers in the inlet and all this rubbish

need the gods honest truth as i am going cold turkey having to drive my sons golf ARGHHHH lol

all advice much appreciated

Yes you can - both are center thrust blocks and the deck height of the pistons should be the same.
Your Version 3 ~ 4 UK heads will fit straight onto the Version 2 block also.

there may be a difference in the inlet manifold,,not 100%

wahooo that is such a great thing to hear that they will fit i was worried that i might have to get rid of my scoob would have been heartbroken cheers you guys are spot on lets hit the road running and get it sorted sorry for the euphoria just i have been going cold turkey

i have one in my uk , the inlet need's to be changed for your uk ok but it's a direct swap !

The inlet manifold bolt pattern of the early 93-96 block is different to the MY97/98 one - you'd simply have to source a MY93-96 I.M. (loads really cheap off ebay!)... cheapest at the mo:-

No need to change the inlet manifold if you are swapping the heads/inlet manifold/headers etc etc from your MY97-98 onto the good MY95-96 RA block.

good stuff i am going to change the heads etc from mine anyways cheers guys you just proved once again how helpful this place is after phoning around apparent perfromance car specialist who hadnt even heard of a RA closed deck block let alone if they were the same

Ha! Funny you should mention it.

Took car into Zen on Friday!... the 13th!!! Is that an unfavourable omen? Bloody hope not! lol

Should be lovelly and sorted - oil/filter change and map tweak too - next Fri 20th. Can't wait...... Well, to collect the car that is - but NOT to pay the bill
