Default Best Turbo for 2.1stroker aiming for 500??

What is the best turbo to go for on a built closed deck 2.1 stroker engine? Heads and cams are V3 sti Type R, looking for around 500bhp and anything over 400lbs/ft torque will do with minimal lag, any ideas?

Rotated GT30R/external waste gate, or an MD321V (or similar) bolt on standard location.

What are the benfits of going rotated over the standard position turbos?

IIRC rotation allows for a bigger turbo to be used..

This is a first graph from our own stroker. This Turbo Technics S206 turbo is rated at 500 bhp, and we expect to see that soon, having made those figures with the same basic unit on a number of Evos. We should be back soon with the latest version of this one, which will come in at under £1000.

Would that not be too laggy on a 2.1?

It made full boost (1.6Bar) at 3600rpm on my cammed 2.35

At a guess, i would think it would do the same on a 2.1 at about 4000rpm.

As for lag between full throttle gear changes, there wasn't any on the 2.35

Must have been a very quick road car Spool would be alot later I take it on my setup as cams are out of the budget

Still deciding, that S206 sounds intresting just worried that it wont be as responsive as I'd like the car to be as its a daily driver Seeing that Alan Jefferey is building my engine I may go for his turbo but really need to see what the spool is like, the rotated GT30R would be ideal but then theres the extra cost of the rotated up and downpipes and bracket fabrication for the turbo, there's so many choices !

K18LLR I think a GT30 hybrid based on a GT3076R with the 0.82 exhaust housing, would be spot on for a 2.1 stroker.

Don't go rotated! There are soo many good standard fit turbo's out there at the moment, if the choice of turbo had of been around when I went rotated I doubt I would of bothered. Its only worth going rotated if you want to really make over 600bhp

Will this make a garunteed 500bhp on vpower on my setup provided I have my fuelling uprated to suit?

Put it this way, that turbo will certainly flow enough for 500 bhp, as it's making that in Evo form already.

Question

Spill the beans then Simon ... What are these 2 Achilles heels that the Impreza has compared the Evo?

Mr Jeffery, what're the issues with the EJ motor that hinders getting to 500/+bhp, then?

its not issues.. its just a different beast.. fuelling targets, manifold route/length, firing order, pulses of exhaust gas at turbo etc etc..

So what you gain in compactness, low centre of gravity, etc, you lose out on ultimate tuning potential lol (only kidding - Subaru, I'm sure, never intended for it to get tuned to these sort of figures ).

correct me if im wrong but dont turbos genraly make more power on evos than scoobies?? an 18G is mostly considerd 370-380 on a scoooby while on an evo its considerd a 380 to 400ish.

and for some odd reason when i tell my friends im running 10% meth they all get confused asking whats is and what it does. meth is widley used on subaru seen but not so much on the nissan or evo seen.
