Coil Pack Advice
Hi,
Just wanted to know if the Coil Pack should make a clicking sound (arking)sound when the car is running - Could this be due to the coil pack needing to be replaced.

clicking is a good sign it's cracked and arcing.
Pull out No.1 front drivers side, remove the rubber cap and it may be cracked or falling apart like this Damaged Coilpack

Thanks for the reply.
How much to replace them - is it worth buying 2nd hand ones or the whole complete unit - Apologies not engine minded.....
My car is P reg 1996 Impreza non turbo.
The coil pack is the black box that sits on top of the engine with the HT leads coming out - as I have read that there are 2 different types.And am unsure of which ones I have.

If yours is a MY96 (Sep.95-Aug 96) then you'll ahve indeividual coilpacks, which fit directly onto each spark plug.
If yours is a MY97 (Sep.96-Aug 97), then you'll have the coilpack module on top of the inlet manifold - check to see if present! If not, then refer to the above paragraph.
IMHO, splash out on either brand new OEM coilpacks and/or HT leads (depending on your Model Year - see above). Once fitted, you can simply forget them for about 15 years! (They'll pay for themselves in that time - if you keep on getting unknown condition 2nd hand ones, that is ).

Thanks for your advice it makes things seem clearer now.
I have had a look and mine is MY97 - coilpack on top of mainfold.
What makes should be best to go for? best places to buy and roughly how much will they cost.

I personally would fit BRAND NEW OEM spec ones, available from most specialists.
They're not cheap at about £65 inc.VAT each, but they last for about 15 years.
So take the plunge, pay the dosh, then you can simply forget about them... and enjoy the car!
