Question Question

Hi
Fitted a boost gauge at the weekend, I gave the car the beans tonight and noticed that the gauge reached 23 psi, I thought it should only go to about 15 psi.
My cars a 2001 bugeye and standard apart from cat back zaust and dump valve.
Is this normal or should I be concerned.
Thanks

I seem to post this a lot just lately:
15psi is approx 1 bar
standard is 0.7-8 bar ....10psi or thereabouts

23psi is 1.5bar ......thats a lot if not mapped for it! ...and a lot anyhoo!

I've fitted the vacume pipe to the top of my dump valve, would I get a more prcise Reading if I fitted it to another vacume pipe.
It s a digital auto gauge.

What I don't understand is that my car goes fine, if I was boosting double what it should, wouldn't I have other problems.
Can anyone shed any light. I don't want to destroy my engine.
Is there any other way I can check my boost and or how do you turn boost down. The boost gauge was £50 and says it gives a really precise reading. I need to check there are no kinks in the pipe etc. Any input would be appreiceated.

As you have no mods like an boost controller(none listed in your profile anyway) you cannot 'just turn down the boost'. As said your standaed boost is c. .8 bar, so 'if' you where boosting to 23psi (1.5 bar)which is doubtfull, i would expect the car to hit fuel cut which you do not mention. Either you are getting a false reading ie you have plumbed the guage incorrectly or, the guage is duff.
Not quite sure about your MY but can you not go direct to one of the 3 outlets on the inlet manifold. As i said not offay with your MY, so best i can do Hth.

Yes I can take a picture, I can post it on later.
There's a 1/2" pipe that comes off the top of my dump valve, that's where I've spliced it inn. If this doesn't help I will post photo tonight.
Thanks for your help though.

Yeah that sort of confirms my thoughts. How have you connected the smaller pipework from the guage to the larger dv pipework?

I T'd mine into the fpr hose, as this seems to give an o.k. reading. 1.5 bar is quite alot, if you are near an Ecutek dealer/mapper they could tell you if it has been mapped.

HTH

dunx

P.S. Mine HAS been re-mapped and hits 1.7 bar in really cold weather.
