Default Can I get your opinion on this.. (idle problem)

My cars been off the road for two weeks and during that time, i have changed the cambelt. I've just put it all back together and now its having trouble idling If the cambelt was a tooth out, i'm pretty sure the car would sound a lot worse than it does. It might just be that the cars got a bit of condensation in it. What do you think? is it safe to take it for a dive

Thanks in advance

cambelt a tooth out usually causes misfire / rough idle but drives fine on boost

thanks for the reply Simon.

i guess one of the cams must be a tooth out then my only other thought was that i might have killed the MAF. I lightly touched it it just to see how big/restrictive it was when the induction piping was off. Do you think this might be a possibility?

maf will be fine with that.. if it were a 99 then it would be a consideration..

currently I cannot get sound on your video to work (machine needs a reset this end I think), but from your description it sounds mostlikely you are a tooth out somewhere.

ok thanks for clearing that up.

i think in that case, i'll take it to the local Subaru specialist and let them do it. do you think it'd be too risky to drive it about 5 miles to the garage or should i get a tow? i can't hear any detting and it appears to rev correctly

Cam belt timing can cause a problem when fitting, as quite often the lines on the belt are a tooth out.
Just make sure all the marks on the cams and crank pulley are correct, and you should be good.
