battery question
#3
I don't think fitting a pair of jump leads is the same as charging the battery. I've always been told to disconnect the earth lead ofr+ve lead so that the charge cannot go through the car circuitry, especially the alternator diodes whuch will fail of you leave coonected.
Anyhow - this is what I have done a couple of times with no problems re. alarm.

never had an issue on many cars just connecting a charger.. I often leave a car idle for a month at a time.
I just avoid letting the charger run with engine running.. as this is what can damage the alternator.. I just start engine and remove charger straight away.
