after spinning a bearing on no.3 rod on my jdm version 6 sti typa ra, decided to do a full rebuild rather than get a recon motor, after getting all the parts (new v9 crank, v9 rods race spec bearings etc) sent the heads off to be reworked only to be told there both cracked my question is what heads can i get that will fit,seen some sti heads on ebay in japan but there nearly £1000 ! can they be interchanged between different models/years etc any help would be greatly appreciated.

 

Version 5 ~ 6 heads tend to crack around the spark plug thread area - normally not a problem in respect to the integrity of the heads but that depends on the extent of the crack.

not got the heads back yet but he said he spotted the crack in 1 of the staight away & pressure tested the both & 1 is leaking quite badly, other not as bad. said he wouldn't put them back on !

I would speak to a specialist about your options. I think the casings are the same on all the phase 2 heads so it may be a case of just swapping over the valves, cams, etc.........

However I could be mistaken, so don't want to build your hopes up too much......

yeah i read somewhere the castings are the same, spoke to david at api, said he'd not got any sti heads in at the moment. i'll give paul a ring.
