Default heat wrapping exhaust manifold

I've recently purchased a 4 branch manifold and am contemplating on whether to heat wrap it or not. I have read different advice stating that it isn't suitable for road cars as they will retain water and rust the manifold. Yet we all know they reduce heat and i've been told power gains of upto 5 bhp can be achieved.

If the elements do damage the manifold how long do you think they would last on my daily driver?

other option is seal the heat wrap in silicone paint or enamal as i have...
stops from coming undone and makes it water proof etc too... like a cast on a broken arm
