td05 16g..what clutch though
hi all
Im getting a td05 16g for my classic and its still on the standard clutch.
Hopefully the td05 will take me from 260 to 300 odd bhp and obviously that will give the clutch a proper hard time.
Is anyone on the stock clutch an about 300bhp. I dont do standing starts and i try not to go slamming through the gears but dont hang about when im in the mood
The exedy stage 1 kit is an option but I have to consider costs etc.
Do I bite the bullet an get the clutch done or see how long it lasts?
Is a td05 just as likely to fry an exedy as a standard clutch or are there other options around the same price?

Mate im in the exact same scenario!!!
I just upped the power on my wrx to 333bhp and running std clutch.
Spoke to and f about it- he says a lot of them are fine running that power, its just your luck.
Mine seems ok but is slipping at times due to power.
I dont fancy burning it off the line though!!!
I have to consider costs as well mate, going to have to save up.
I would guess that I would be looking for a clutch that is comfortable running 400bhp to make sure it lasted.
Will have to watch this thread!!

A recommended upgrade for upto, I think, 350bhp is API's hybrid Exedy Organic - mit just had one fitted at API.
Can't remember the supplied and fitted cost though - but you know everything will be perfect, etc.
API David says don't be tempted by the price-driven ones on eBay as, in his experience, they are way more trouble than the low price is worth (if you see what I mean).

It'll start slipping when you put more load on the engine i.e.it 'feels' like when wheel speed gets faster than road speed i.e. driving in smow - it'll be unmistakable when it happens. You expect to be travelling at a given speed but the revs just flare and you go slower than expected lol.
In my experience you can drive around it for weeks/months before it slips completely and you get absolutely no drive... So you'll have plenty of warning time to get it to a garage/specialist, when it first rears it's ugly head...
