Default Max recommended boost on a STI ver.7?

I am considering a turbo upgrade on my 2002 STI. The block is stock and has OEM forged internals, not aftermarket. So, in a perfect world i.e. no knocking, high oil temps etc....

what's the max recommended boost before reliablilty goes out the window?

I vaguely remember 1,6Bar being the limit on OEM internals??

Around 1.6 1.7 bar would be the safe limit on standard internals.

on what turbo?

1.6bar on a vf34 is very different to 1.6bar on a gt35r

It's a GT4088R.
No seriously, I am just kidding

I am considering the ST420.
I have read that it's happy with a little more boost than say 1.4 bar, hence the question. Just looking for a solid 400bhp or thereabouts

Nope, it's is nowhere near capable of what I want. I had one for over a year and IMO it's was not an upgrade for my STI (VF30). I made 290BHP on Rototest (@hubs) and the main issue is that it flatlines at 5500rpm. Some 18G are great I've heard, others are not so great. I made a mistake back then, and I don't want to make another.

Ok but that was the turbo on your profile hence at just how good they seem at not producing great figures.

A decent 18G will see up to 380bhp on a well set up car and be faster spooling with your VVT heads at a comfortable 1.6 bar

lol, it may take you some time Simon, I have seen one whilst road testing to check for a faulty boost solenoid hit 2.3 bar and it didn't bat an eyelid.
It felt quite punchy .

Hi mate,

No, I missed it
But it'll show up on youtube or some other site I guess, and I hope to be able to download the progs

no need for fPr with 18g.. the 550cc standard injectors and standard fuel pressure reg will be fine.

boost controller a niceaty but not a must
