Default Blown Engine

Hi all

Just joined, seems like a good site!

I have just bought my first Scooby a 2000 2ltrTurbo, 51,000 on the clock, Silver & in great condition, it was a Xmas present to myself!!!

Only had it on the road for 3 days & the engine blew Big ends!!

I now have to get another engine. Can anyone help me...What engines can i put in it & any suggestions on where to get one & what to look out for

I`m absolutely devistated

Thanks

Its not cheap for a rebuild, your looking at 2.5k recon engines are a bit hit and miss, 1500 quid and after 30 days if it blows then your screwed again
Second hand engines are the same but with less options if they go wrong
I take it you bought private? (and where are you located)?

Oh and welcome just not good circumstances for you

Tony

Thanks Tony

Will a 2.5 STI go in there or a 2.0 Pro Drive?
Or does it have to be a standard 2.0 Turbo?

Does it have to be an engine of the same year?

You can go for a 2.5 but you will need a remap/ecu depending on what year your car is, bottom end 2.5's are a common conversion but the torque can cause havoc with yoru gearbox/clutch
A normal 2ltr turbo (dont worry about the 2ltr prodrive, thats the ecu) will be ok

why is a re-con a bit hit & miss?
Is it better to re-build rather than get another engine from one being broken?

A recon engine just sort of looks over the parts then puts it out, a rebuilt engine is exactly that, all the parts have been replaced, hence a rebuild is much better than a recon or second hand engine

Thanks for that Tony

I`v had an offer of £1.400.00 for a rebuild, have spoken to him, he seems like a nice genuine guy

New -
Crank
Con rods
Bearings
Belts
Oil pump upgrade to high pressure
Water pump check over
General clean down

I think this sounds like the way to go, what do you think?

Mick

If you are still not sure do a search for API.

I'd hazard a guess that the seller knew it was failing and had filled it up with a nice thick oil to mask the bottom end rattling

Hope you get it sorted. As others have said, API are well respected. There's a few other good Scooby specialists you can trust, ask on here or do a search to find out about anyone you consider. It's time to bite the bullet though, 'cos if you go cheap on the rebuild or replacement it could well cost you much more in the long run.

The guys name is Andy from Williams-Motorsport he builds Impreza engines. He is near Chester, he said he can re build my engine with all new parts & 6 Months warranty for around 1,900 for drive in drive out or if I send my engine- 1,400. He`s been building these engine for over 9 years, rally cars, road cars etc. He is selling an engine on ebay he has 100% rating.
He seems like a real genuine guy & very knowledgable, he also says he`s a Rally Driver.
Has anyone heard of him?

If he ends out being sound i think all of you will be using him
