Default Should i get an HKS Fuel Cut Defender?? (FCD)

So,

ive had my scooby a while now, when i bought it, it was cutting out and overboosting like bugger knows what.

Had it remapped and the boost has been taken right down etc and the map done properly, however, in the cold due the denser air i get the odd cut coz of boost creep / overshoot ... i read today about a boost cut defender / hks fuel cut defender & wondered if its worth while me getting one??

my current setup has avc-r & the power fc hand controller / ecu

is it worth while me investing in an hks fcd??

many thanks

James

My car spec is here: clicky clicky

no.
The powerFC will cut boost if you over shoot by 0.2bar iirc
it may be that you have an early car with a crap map sensor in it or that you have an underlying issue somewhere else but the powerFC and AVC-r are a great combo that I took to 1.8bar and 1.6bar respectively.

well given my current set up, the boost is 1.0 on [B] and 1.30 on [A] with the % duty increased so actual is 1.20 on [B] and from 1.40 - 1.50 max on [A] (mine has some creep / overshoot hence why we agreed to set up as is - Simon from jollygreenmonster did my remap)

Before the remap the %'s were on like 49% lmao and was hitting 2.0 then cutting obviously.

If an HKS FCD is not the answer - what would you suggest? i have the hand controller for the power fc, so are there any values i can change and test there?? (obviously id note down all figures before changing)

many thanks for the prompt reply

added: the f/b on the avc-r is set to 5 5 5 5 5 - which helps, simon said i should be able to go to 3 3 3 3 3, but as soon as its a cold day it cuts on boost, 4 4 4 4 4 is in between, if its coldish its ok unless it creeps in which case it cuts so i put it to 5 5 5 5 5

2nd add lol: its 1994 i think not sure which sti lump was put in it tho

James

You wont do much better than Simon the Jolly Green Monster
Seems to me you need to find out why you have creep etc

added to the fact that you made some changes, that can't have helped
I would suggest that you do nothing to the powerFC or commander and speak to somebody (Simon would be a great start) to try to control the boost better.

thanks for the reply again

The settings i changed after emailing simon, but it was just the f/b settings. Simon witnessed the creep himself.

Thing is, i dont want the FCD so i can wack up the boost i just wanna stop it cutting out if the weathers freezing lol - just want some consistency otherwise i (keep) getting caught out weather temp depending lol

Cheers

James

what turbo are you running buddy?
in fact it would be a good idea to post a full spec as something mechanical doesn't seem right...

Turbo is the VF28 P1

This was all done prior to me buying, however, all seems correct:

New Sti engine
VF28 P1 turbo
Full Blue oversized hose kit
Front mounted intercooler
Blitz turbo timer
HKS adjustable dump valve
Chrome Header tanks e.t.c
Lowered on PINK suspension kit
Rays Engineering alloys
STI CLOSE GEAR RATIO GEARBOX

All work done at jap performance

apexi power fc programmable ecu
Apexi STI 3/4 Power FC Hand Commander
Apexi AVC-R Control unit
Defi Gauges with control unit for record/playback (turbo, oil pressure, oil temp)
V1/2 Apexi induction kit
Full Stainless steel HKS exhaust system
Apexi 550 injectors
Equal length headers
Jap fuel filter
STI RA Manifold

Thats all i know - Simon verified my injectors were 550's & not 800's as my original newbie post
