Default Can't rev past 4500, engine check light on

Just wondering if any one could help before I starting payng money that I don't have to have it checked out. I have a 1994 (M reg) estate auto (I know) that runs fine, starts first time and goes like hell, as they should, until it hits 4500 rpm, then it's like an engine limiter has been fitted. There are no mods or any work done recently, just started doing it as I was going up the M1. Wasn't going too quick either, about 60mph. Any help will be welcome.

Scoobypedia | Trusted knowledge for everything Subaru | Scoobypedia / Scoobypedia under the 'ECU' heading shows how to manually check for error codes.
Does the speedo work?

That's why you can't get past 4.5K and your boost is lowered as this puts the car into Limp mode.

It may have come unplugged or be broken

Can not believe the speedo not working would cause such a big problem, re-connected the speedo cable, drove 10 yards and problem gone. Thanks for the info.

Speedo no work CEL on as it's a safety feature.

It also prevents Japanese drivers unplugging the speedo to get round the 112mph speed limiter on JDM cars.

Curiously, my speedo has stopped working, but I have no CEL and no rev limiter!
