Default turbocharging a 2.0 sport

my mate has a wrx import with the engine on its way out. we have been given a 2.0 gx engine, can the turbo and intercooler ect ect ect be fitted to this ok, as the block is still an ej20?

will it be strong enought ??

newage engine fit a classic shell ?

just seems a shame to throw away the engine.

please help

Cheers

Not worth the money and effort. Just get an Sti engine.

Or sell the rolling shell and buy a Sti or Wrx - they are cheap at the moment anyway.

Edited to say - just try selling the 2.0gx engine on ebay or something? Would go towards the cost of a wrx or Sti engine.

Depends what is wrong with the wrx engine I suppose. The pistons, heads etc will be different but the block & crank might be the same.

If you have a 'source', it would surely be better to find a nice standard Sti engine to start with. That's what I'd do anyway...easier to tune in the future and definetly stronger. Just have it mapped properly and you are away.

Sorry can't answer your original question, but just giving you other options.

Aye, but sometimes taking a hit to the wallet now will make you a lot happier later on! No pain no gain.

The first turbos imported into the uk by Subaru were badged as 1.8GL's even though they were WRX's, could be one of thoses instead of a conversion??

I would assume that you would probably blow the sport engine up as I doubt it would be strong enough to take the boost power.... better off talking to a mapper or engine builder as they could probably give you a tech answer.

Sell the sport engine and use that to fund a turbo block possibly ?

just buy a turbo impreza, can pic them up cheap enough now, its set up to how its ment to be, suspension, breaks etc, i think turboing a sport will end up given ur trouble in time,

Far too much hassle just changing the engine for a turbo one, as already said, and you would need to replace half the car in the process (gearbox wont last long as its totally different to that of a turbo, rear diff, drum brakes would need replacing on the rear, considerably smaller discs on the front so would need upgrading etc etc etc)

I'll give you cash for the sport engine too if the price is right

As already said, not worth it. You could buy a bottom end for as little as £100 these days. Or how about just taking the engine out and stripping it down to learn the full extent of the damage? May just want shells...
Money no object, how about forged internals?

I think half of you have missed the original question. He is not turbo charging a sport he is asking if a block from a sport will be a suitable doner engine for a WRX.

NO it won't, the pistons are the wrong compression height.

It CAN be done, of course, but it won't last long. Just a waste of money and time trying.
