Default boost problems!

can any one help me? my my99 impreza turbo 2000 has developed a boost problem, and is gradually getting worse. it started losing power a few weeks ago when the turbo was boosting, the turbo seems to stop for a split second around 3500rpm onwards then be ok then stop again around 5000rpm. now its playing up more frequently kangerooing and very down on power.... very annoying!!! ive done the diagnostic check and it came up with 44 which is a boost pressure regulator or somthing. any ideas? doing my head in now

I sold a standard 2 port for £10 a couple of weeks ago.
I bought a 3 port for £25.
