All JDM STi saloons/wagons - plus WRX saloons only - were 280PS (276bhp) from MY97>on (Sep 96 to Aug 00), Versions 3 to 6.

my plan was to transplat parts from my jdm 97 p reg that was running 320 but engine gone and its a bit tatty is this still a sensible option or am i barking up the wrong tree if its a 260

Roojai Subaru Impreza

this shows that late 96 was the crossover point between 260ps to 280ps so it all depends on whne the car was made.

Speak to guy on here 'GC8' as he has a ****load of info on the clasic impreza (i do believe he used to import them may be mistaken though)

(1) If it was made before 31st Aug 1996, it should be MY96 260PS - but WON'T be a facelift model.

(2) If after that date then a MY97 280PS... with the 'phase 1.5' facelift.

Check the passenger's front suspension turret's VIN plate - if the 'Applied model' code's 4th character - i.e. after 'GC8...' - is a C, then see point (1). If the letter's a D, then see point (2).

The manifold mounted coil pack, not plug top coils (not furkin packs, there is only one in each!) is the easy give away to it being 97MY- and 276PS.

WRX Saloons made from Autumn 1992 for the 1993 model year were good for 240PS, as were the 1994 model years cars. 1995 and 1996 model year cars were rated at 260PS. 1997 model year cars (facelifted) manufactured from Autumn 1996 onwards were rated at 280PS. The first STI model made in 1994 came with 250PS: the second STI model, the STI Type-RA from 1995 275, as did the first series production STI, the STI Version 2, introduced in Autumn 1995 for the 1996 model year. The STI V2 'Wagon was rated at 260PS but matched other STIs in later models. The 1994MY-1996MY 'Wagons produced 220PS and the later models 240PS.
