limited to 4.5k revs...
as title says...
since driving to manc other day the engine check light came on....
ok so i drove very slowly all the way up north... identified the the light to be the speed sensor on the gbox not working... thats fine i knew that...but..
why did it suddenly come on and not last week when i picked up the car from mechanic who fitted the nex box... he did say the engine check light would be on.. but nothing for a few days then suddenly now...?
but now as i rev the car on idle or driving it.. its all fine then BANG 4.5k is like ive hit a brick wall and feels like a Limiter....
q. has the eng light come on for more than just the speed sensor?
q. does the eng light come on and go into some sort of "safety mode"?
very confused... im convinced its not a misfire... plugs not very old....
i cant imagine this has anything to do with the bottom end knocking... and all this is just one big coincidense....
please help..
cheers

then i would guess the speed sensor is buggered.
Scoobypedia | Trusted knowledge for everything Subaru | Knowledge / Reading ECU Fault Codes
This shows how the CEL will show you if you have more than 1 code

waiting to collect the sesnsor then th mechanic will chuck it on for me...
didnt think the sensor would make all this difference... thought it would just be the case of no speedo..?
i know the speedo sensor is buggered.. my mechanic told me it snapped when fitting the new box.... what baffles me is that i got the car back last sat with no light.. just no speedo.....
and on NYE the eng check light suddenly came on, on the M6.... so random..

Mate when I first picked up the Scoob 18 months ago I had this exact problem intermittently. It was diagnosed as the speed sensor from the error code and yeah it is like a brick wall! The speedo would sometimes just drop to 0mph and then back up again.
Subaru told me I needed a new one (from Japan) at £100 and that it might not fix it. They were telling me all sorts o how when they are imported people mess with the speedo, etc please. What you can do is remove the intercooler and look down onto the gearbox on the driver's side for the connector (mine was yellow plastic). Take it off and clean it with an airgun. I realise yours is off as broken but...
The other thing I did which cured the problem was to remove the clocks and undo and rewire each wire from the speedo convertor. I'm only assuming yours is JDM. However, this fixed the problem completely.
So by that just refitting yours should help!

mines a rb5 so a uk car, it makes sense that its being caused by the speedo sensor not being there.. so that just needs replacing..
