Yes that is the clutch, is it a classic by any chance?

This was common on early classics. I had this on an MY97, you can either put up with it, or osrt it with a new clutch/flywheel, about £800 I think, although mine was done under warranty.

MY99 UK Turbo does it but only occasionally hasn't done it for a while and its been freezing down salisbury way too. I've just accepted that it will happen from time to time for now anyhoo.

Damn it better not do it tomorrow now!!!

Usually just your fly wheel, i high speed launch sometimes sorts it. The reason for the high repair cost is that you might as well do the clutch while your gearbox is out, if your a dab hand with a spanner you could do it for less than 500 with a bloody good clutch from API

How did you manage to get a clutch done under warranty? I thought its a "wear and tear" part? Unless your talking BS?

As said this is common, doesn't mean ur clutch is on it's way out, u could have the same problem with a brand new clutch

Try a hard (high rev) launch once the car is fully warmed up, i found this cleared it for a good while on mine.

it might not be the clutch, it could even be the maf on its way out. take it to a specialist.

if it's doing it with the clutch already released then poss maf.

if it's doing it whilst releasing clutch then it's the clutch, likely caused by grippy and slippy bits on the flywheel (couldn't think of any other way to describe it) as most have suggested, a bit of clutch slippage (you don't really need to hard launch it, just slip your clutch a bit will even things up for a while.

Yup my old bugeye WRX did the same , common problem at the time and as it was a new car, took it back to Subaru who replaced under warrenty - I think with the uprate STi clutch. No problems after that and put 40K on the clock.
