Default Boost controll question

I have a 97 v3 sti type r and it has a full 3'' system and downpipe. Problem is I think that its causing the car to over boost. Is there a cheap and simple way to controll this, ideally without a remap or a electronic boost controller as money is very tight at the minute.

I was thinking maybe a restrictor ring or could I try and source a standard downpipe?

cheers peeps

Confirm what boost is being made, if it is spiking You can enlarge the restrictor pill to lower boost but be carefull to enlarge only a small amount, this can be found between the small boost/vacuum hose that runs from the compressor housing to the plastic tee piece. Alternatively you could fit a manual boost controller, I personally don't recommend the second option long term. You will also hit fuel cut if the spike is severe.
