STi 2 TMIC vs. ARC AFTERMARKET TMIC ???
Can any of the specialIsts tell me if it's worthwhile replacing my currently fitted STi 2 TMIC (tube & fin) - see here...

...for an aftermarket ARC TMIC (bar & plate)? - see here...

My concern is that, unlike the OEM STi 2 one, the ARC doesn't have the protruding 'walls' which would otherwise snugly accept the bonnet scoop's 'walls' on the underside of the bonnet, thus creating a 'pathway' so that the air can't be inadvertly bled off around all four edges of the ARC i.e. the airflow wanting to follow paths of least resistance.
Do I have reason to worry about this, or will the bonnet scoop direct the air through the ARC core just fine?

My personal opinion on this mate, would be ...... it's not an issue at all.
But if you wanted to you could fab up a basic template to sit on top of the ARC to create the protruding walls?..... i don;t think there will be much to gain from it tho.

the main issues I see with aftermarket top mount intercoolers is no tray on thd bonnet and all the lovely cool air goes over the back of it.. or no walls as mentioned..
the price of fmic is so cheap now I would just forget tmic on the early original slanty intercooler car and just go fmic.. on the 97 on where you have slightly more room it is worth fitting larger ones from the newer car.. best being the sti8 etc..
imho

Thanks guys for the info.
Yeah, sod it, I'll think I'll just hold out for the Hybrid GT Spec and book 2 days with harvey to fit it (plus 440s) in late spring, then a remap with you Simon, a day or two after

Baly, do you know what power and torque that car is producing on those mods, at that 1.6bar? It'll give me an indication of what i could expect.

harvey, if you see this thread can you answer this quick question:
When I eventually decide to book car in for the the Hybrid to be fitted, do I need to arrange to remove the OEM bumper central maw's horizontal slats beforehand... Or is this job included in your £180 fitting price?
Thanks.
